Improving intravenous drugs administration in ICU and reducing drug incompatibilities: a nurselead interdisciplinary program
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction Many intravenous (IV) drugs are required for complex and polypathologic critically ill ICU patients management. ICU nurses are daily confronted with drugs preparation and administration (solvent type and volume, infusion rate). They also have to deal with drugs physiochemical incompatibilities (PCI), especially as various IV medications are delivered via a single catheter lumen. PCI may induce a loss of drug efficiency, catheter thrombosis and embolism. Data about drugs PCI in ICU are scarce (1).

The Effect of Modern Educational Strategies in Reducing Intravenous Drug Administration Error: A Non-Randomized Clinical Trial
Introduction: Among medication errors, intravenous medication administration errors are especially important. The lack of medication information can be one of the causes of medication errors. Using electronic education may facilitate quick access to the update resources. The objective of this study is the evaluation of an appropriate educational strategy to reduce intravenous drug administratio...

Background: Intravenous (IV) injection of drugs is one of the most common methods of drug prescription in hospitals, which is a complex, potentially hazardous and erroneous method; accordingly, it requires control methods to reduce the potential risks. This study focused on determining the frequency and types of different medication errors while preparing and administering mostly used IV drugs ...

AbstractMedication errors are commonly encountered in hospital setting. Intravenous medications pose particular risks because of their greater complexity and the multiple steps required in their preparation, administration and monitoring. We aimed to determine the rate of errors during preparation and administration phase of intravenous medications and the correlation of these errors with the d...
